Synopsis of novel
Z
for zachariah is
the story's events are set almost entirely in Burden Valley, a small valley in
the American Midwest. Ann Burden, a resourceful 16
years old farm girl who keeps a journal chronicling . her efforts to survive
after a nuclear .
After living alone for a year and believing herself the last survivor of a
nuclear war, Ann fears that a stranger approaching her valley might be a killer
or enslave her. Here the conflict began, when
loomis comes ann feel
threatened and therefore ann
not show himself in front of loomis, for a few days
ann spying loomis out of a tree. but when
loomis fall ill
from swimming in water that is
exposed to radiation from nuclear ann
reveal himself and
help loomis but
when ann comes, loomis calling her edward,
she took into her home and care for loomis sincerely
and well. pain
was so severe that loomis overwhelmed. One
night when he was delirious loomis call edward's
name again and said "do not take this suit".
ann felt something strange between edward
and loomis. after
loomis nearly recovered
from his illness ann asked what
loomis ever married
but react strangely, he holds strong ann’s hand
and asked why ann ask about that. loomis increasingly
bizarre as he tried to exploit
ann to do all the
work.
Conflict when loomis
came into ann’s room and wanted to
rape her but ann
run and hide. complications arise as a result of the conflict
when loomis like hunters
who were hunting animals
in the forest, he tried to catch and shoot
ann that he was
shot and wounded pretty badly. Then the thought
ann loomis to
make a deal with the division of land for agriculture
in the valley. but loomis still trying
to catch her
with the help of faro.
the conflict resolved
when Ann takes
the offensive by leaving a message that she will talk about returning if he
meets her unarmed. When he surprisingly leaves his gun to meet her in good
faith, Ann steals his safe-suit and cart. While carrying out her plan, she
remembers sadly her hopes they would save humanity together. Ann then waits on
Burden Hill for a last meeting with Loomis, who arrives on the tractor enraged,
ignores a warning shot, and threatens to kill her if she doesn’t return the
suit.
However,
when Ann accuses him of killing Edward the same way, revealing what he said
during his sickness, Loomis suddenly becomes dispirited and passive. When Ann
declares she has no choice because of refusing to be his prisoner, Loomis
replies in fright and bewilderment, “It’s wrong,” and begs her not to leave him
there alone . Finally, in admittedly childish manner, Ann blames Loomis because
he never thanked her for nursing him. As she walks away expecting to be shot in
the back, Loomis calls out that he once saw birds circling to the west. She
then keeps walking for most of the night until, exhausted, she lies down
without setting up the protective tent. The story ends uncertainly. Awaking
late the next morning, Ann continues west beside a dead stream, hoping to see
green on the horizon.
Issues presented in novel
1.environmental issues (Radiation
Sickness)
People and
animals exposed to high levels of radiation are likely to suffer from radiation
sickness, an often fatal disease that strikes at the intestinal system and,
even more dangerously, the bone marrow. Furthermore, long term effects of
exposure to radiation include cancer and Biological
Warfare, In this novel the effects of nuclear
war are compounded by biological warfare, which is the military use of germs,
viruses, and other agents that cause disease.
2. personal issues
this
novel use a science fiction format to look at profound social and personal
issues. Concentrating on humans being caught in special and revealing
situations . loomis as someone measuring up to egoist wish to exploit ann ,her
realize this matter but her desire to pass off life and hope can get married with
loomis in a moment making her stay , but in the end ann think can’t continue
her life with him and leave him alone in the valley because Loomis tried to convince
her to stay with him. But she was very clear, that she wouldn't stay any
longer, and be hunted like and animal or be made into a prisoner. for
this case , when their lives are at stake, people
can discover capabilities they didn’t know they had, they can also become
brutally aggressive and self centered.
3.rape issues
In
the midlle of novel loomis want to rape ann . One night he comes into Anne's
room and pounces on her. Luckily, she has not been able to go to sleep and is
prepared for the situation. With a quick move, she swats him and runs out of
the house.
This event changes the rest of their
lives forever. His attitude often changes dramatically
. ought loomis can talk this matter
before because ann ever think to marry with him but until her enough adult .
Evaluation
and conclusion
1.Like
and dislike
Z
for Zachariah is a must for all science fiction lovers I've read this book
countless times. It's definitely one of the best 'end of the human race' books
in existence. This book makes you feel as if you're there. It's written in the
form of the diary of the last female on earth, and tells about how she handles
her predicament. And i interest about the title of novel is z for zachariah
have mean the last people that still life in this world because if A is Adam as
we know adam is the first people in this earth,
B is for Benjamin , C for Cristian and the last is Z for Zachariah , she
learn in the bible letter book when her still school . so i assumed that ann felt
her is last people still a life like Zachariah . and than about what i dislike
from this novel is part of end from this novel , i still curious what happen to
ann after she walk away .
2 . weak and strong of the story
This
novel is great because it is read by both children and adults, in addition to
her language that is easy to digest and
very inspiring brain, as we are led to participate in the story in it, as if to
be a ann is so lively and not abstinence surrender. then this novel form of the
diary which was written by ann, so we know what are the thoughts and actions
that will take place next ann. character of ann is so strong an attraction themselves
to know more trips him next.
The weakness
of the novel is not that much, maybe like the last story like there would be a
second Z for Zachariah, the story is still hanging and it would be nice if a
few novel tells the biography of the author that the reader can immediately
find out who the author of the novel that he read, according to which I as a
reader and analyzer novel.
3.Important insight and lessons
The story of
this novel is very good and it can be an inspiration to children that are not
easily discouraged in difficult and only adults who can do it, but here ann
prove that he can do what adults do well. I also got a useful lesson from this
novel is when you alone and no one else can help yourself to never give up
because it is sometimes even better, why do I say that because when ann lonely
even though she lives in the valley so quiet and there was no disorder but
after coming loomis , ann quiet life turned into a disaster. so actually
depends on the conditions when we feel more calm and peaceful.
This
is something of a tour imaginative writing. The reader's attention is held
throughout and there is are no concessions to sentiment or whimsy. Intelligent
children will love it and many parents will insist on finishing it before it
goes back to the school library .
4. Recomendation
Z
for Zachariah is the best book I have ever read! Z for Zachariah is written so
well, you could just as easily be there, experiencing the story right alongside
with the heroine (Ann). O'Brien wrote this piece in such a manner that once you
pick it up, it is simply impossible to put it down. So i recommended this novel
to everybody from children until adult .
5 . conclusion
the author
presents a life and death situation. There has been a nuclear explosion and
Anne, a girl who was left at home when her family went to investigate the
situation, thinks that she is the only person left on Earth. Then she sees a
man coming, She's so excited .Issues presented in novel they are environmental issues
(Radiation Sickness),
personal issues, and rape issues .
When their lives are at stake, people
can discover capabilities they didn’t know they had, they can also become
brutally aggressive and self-centered. Good lesson that i find from this novel
.
Her final
decision makes the reader curious about what will happen next. This book was
really, really enjoyable. If you like scientis fiction books, then this is the
book for you!
